Q: Is this a toy ? A: ROVs are grouped as observation class or work
class. Our unit belongs to the former. It's not the sort of ROV one finds in the Gulf Coast. Those machines, mostly designed for oil field work, are large, very heavy, have dedicated engineers and pilots, and can
cost millions of dollars. The niche we service are engineers and others who need a local-based commercial grade exploratory ROV without the enormous mobilization costs of large work class units
Q: what are common applications ? A: The ROV is great for visual examinations of underwater structures, such a pilings, bridge footings, dam gates, the underside of vessels, and so forth.
Q: why not use divers ? A: Why put a diver into a dangerous situation (such as 300' up a sewer pipe) when you can use an ROV instead ? And the ROV has the advantage that everything it sees is recorded on
videotape, creating a permanent replayable record. We do commercial diving, and we know there are times when a diver is the better choice over an ROV. Each has their place. And often they work together.
